HOY showcases a wide variety of equestrian brands including horse riding fashion, and we'll be taking along our equestrian clothing range with some very hot show specials. Our fabulous stand A13 is right by the main arena.
Attracting competitors of the highest standards, there’s something for everyone at HOY – no matter if you’re a rider, a horse enthusiast or just a horse lover. Show Jumping, Dressage, Show Hunter, Eventing, NZ Sport Horse, Side-Saddle, Pleasure, Mounted Games, Para Equestrian, Pinto, Arabian and Gypsy Cob Showing Classes are just some of the competitions you can experience. In the past the odd Royal has even popped over to compete and enjoy the atmosphere.
Based at the Tomoana Showgrounds in Hastings in the Hawke’s Bay, the Horse of the Year Show has been a fixture in our national equestrian calendar for decades. The past two years have been a blow for the organisers, having to cancel both the 2021 and 2022 shows due to crowd restrictions. The Horse of the Year Show brings over 11,000 visitors to the region and upwards of $5 million into the local economy.
If you’re thinking a weekend trip to the Horse of the Year Show might suit your family, or a group of your favourite 'horse girls', check out the ‘Free-for-all-Friday’ on 10 March 2023 which a allows entry from 3pm for a gold coin donation and features the Craigs Investment Partners Young Rider of the Year at 4pm followed by the Cavallino Silver Fern Stakes Show-Jumping competition at 530pm.
The Show will also feature the Resene Horse-Play Zone with games, attractions, fun-filled activities, spot prizes and giveways en masse. A Care for My Pony Education Corner will give kids an insight into what’s involved in looking after their pony with grooming and feeding advice from local pony club riders.
